Question

What does it mean to be a man?
What is the journey from boyhood to manhood? When can one say that one has arrived?

This is pertinent in more ways than one. The reason why I'm asking it now is because Trevor and I are writing a story for class that's kind of about this.

So, yeah. Talk amongst yourselves.

Wait a minute, you WANT us to talk amongst ourselves in your comments???

You've thrown off my worldview. Again. XD

What makes a male a man? ....

When he's old enough to ask. And decide that he is.

When he's old enough to treat everyone and everything around him with respect.

When he finds God and lives for Him.

That's my two cents anyway.

Pennies!! God says hello! :)

I don't think one can ever say he is a man. As we all know life is a journey *cough cough* and the path between boyhood and manhood (or from girlhood to womanhood) is never precise and clear. It's ever wandering, occasionally stopping to give you opportunities to demonstrate how much you've grown as a man (or woman). If you fail, then you stay on the path, where it takes you somewhere else to another opportunity... but if you show you've learned a lesson, you've learned a virtue, you've learned a skill, then you move forward to, again, another opportunity, but often this one is a little bit harder of a call to make...
hmm, but now I'm rambling... I hope you and Trevor come up with something that works.

I thought of something of worth.

When I think of a man, I think of strength. It isn't always physical strength, but more of a strength of the heart and mind. A man stands firm in his beliefs, a boy will change with the crowd. A man will love through the hard times, a boy will move on to the next person.

How does one get there? Time. Since our culture doesn't exactly have a rite of passage for kids, it's hard to say when a boy/girl officially becomes a man/woman.

I think that its funny that all the people who have so far comented on what it is to be a man....are never going to be men :S

*laughs at Becky's valid point*
I would like to hear a male perspective on this...

A thought: I think it's impossible to arrive (perhaps surrendering to this is part of the journey). A Journey (by beautiful, frustrating definition?) is open-ended. I think the point of wisdom (which I would hope is a component of manhood or womanhood) is that it continually seeks wisdom...
